Niriedes Hotel Platys Gialos Sifnos

Niriedes Hotel Sifnos is a small and comfortable family-run hotel built on the hill overlooking the lovely Platys Gialos beach on Sifnos. We have stayed there twice now (last in 2023) and found it to be a great location for a stay on Sifnos with a very helpful and welcoming host (the wonderful Thanos) who provided some epic breakfasts for us as well as some free humour! Niriedes is not about full-on luxury but is very comfortable and suitable for couples and families with a small pool provided as part of the hotel facilities.

Niriedes Hotel Sifnos is definitely recommended for a stay on Sifnos. Get in early because it does sell out.

Nirides Hotel Sifnos location

Niriedes Hotel Sifnos is in a great location, looking down on Platys Gialos beach from an elevated position. Of course regular Greek visitors will know that whenever there is a good view, it has to be earned by climbing upwards and the view from Niriedes is no exception. If you are approaching from Platys Gialos beach, there are a fair number of steps to be climbed to get to the hotel. The good news is that there are less if you are coming from where your car is parked. The steps are fairly shallow though and you can take your time on the way up, stopping to look back and admire the beach view. When you do reach the hotel entrance up the steps though, there are still some more steps to climb to reach your room. Especially if your room is right at the back of the property.

The hotel is easy to get to if you’re coming from Kamares port, where the ferries arrive. If you’re hiring a car, you can collect it from the port and the drive to Niriedes is quite easy – just head up the hill from Kamares to Apollonia, turn right at the main junction and then head towards Platys Gialos – it will take around 20 minutes.

Niriedes is located as you head down the hill into Platys (look for a sharp left turn near Hotel Alexandros) and there is parking on the approach to the hotel. Hopefully you’re travelling fairly light because some of those steps will need to be climbed to get to your room.

Niriedes Hotel Sifnos Rooms and facilities

The Niriedes Hotel Sifnos rooms are decorated in the traditional Cyclades style which means presented simply but still comfortable. Depending on the room you select you may have kitchen facilities and an area outside to sit and admire the view. WiFi works pretty well and there is a small TV in each room.

There is a smallish pool which is good for children or any adults who don’t feel like heading to the beach – beach towels are provided.

Breakfast

Breakfast at Niriedes deserves its own paragraph!! It’s served on an attractive terrace (unless the weather is bad, then inside) with a view across the beach (see above).  It’s massive! Thanos will serve you with cold meats, lovely local cheese, biscuits, pastries, bread and will then offer you your choice of eggs and/or greek yogurt and fruit. Thanos’ family also runs the Gerontopoulos cafe in Appollonia so you can guarantee that all the breads, cakes and biscuits are good. All accompanied of course with endless teas and coffees. The temptation is to linger on the terrace all morning but of course Sifnos has plenty of attractions to drag you away

Niriedes Hotel features – Thanos

As you travel around the Greek islands you’ll meet plenty of characters that will remain in your memory (which is a good part of what holidays are about). Thanos is one of those characters.

He’s very entertaining as well as being hard working – ask him to tell you the George Clooney story. He’s really helpful too and he’ll  give you lots of good tips about where to go (and where not to) on Sifnos without being overbearing.
