Naxos Nearest Airport
Naxos Airport Greece Code – JNX Naxos
Naxos Airport Greece Apollon is the nearest airport to Naxos Chora and is principally a domestic airport (IATA code JNX Naxos) given its small size (both runway which is only 900m and services buildings). The current facility was built in 1992 and is located around 3.5kms south of Naxos Chora. It is also known as ‘Apollon’.
Athens to Naxos flights
Olympic Air/Aegean and Sky Express are the companies offering flights from Athens Airport to Naxos Airport Greece. The flight time is around 45 minutes and there are around 60 flights per week to the island. There are a good range of times so you can work out your best connection options to get to Naxos. Its always best to book in advance rather than turn up and hope to get a seat.
With the small runway (900m) and the limited services, dont expect big planes to be flying from Athens to Naxos Airport Greece. If you’re a nervous flyer, it’s worth considering whether you’d prefer a ferry connection to Naxos rather than the flight option.
The pictures below give you an idea of the size of the planes and the airport buildings.

Then its a case of some quick paperwork, a check of the car itself (always recommended, take photos and note any pre-existing damage with the rental agent) and you’re ready to go.
Many of the familiar international names are represented on Naxos but I’d recommend going for one of the local companies who rely on good feedback for their businesses and typically are helpful and responsive.
Naxos Airport Upgrade
In April 2022, a 20m Euro Naxos Airport Upgrade project was announced. There was some concern that the upgrade would significantly change the nature of the airport and mssively increase the airport traffic levels. However the detail shows that the expansion is relatively modest – a 30m extension of the runway, an aircraft turning pad and various other minor improvements. There is no large increase in refuelling capabilities or other facilities for larger plans.
